Former Hunters Lane football coach Preston Scott has been named the new coach at Stratford.

“I want to thank the administration team at Stratford High School for selecting me as the head coach,” Scott said in a school release Tuesday. “I know Stratford High School has a rich tradition, and I find it an honor and a privilege to lead this program. There is great support there, and I know that we are going to be successful in getting this program to great heights.”

Scott was most recently an assistant at Stewarts Creek and he was coach at Hunters Lane in 2019-20, going 6-13 overall (including 3-6 in a COVID-19 season of 2020).

Scott led the Warriors to the Class 5A playoffs in his first season in 2019. It was the first time the program had been in the TSSAA postseason since 2009.

Hunters Lane coach Preston Scott talks it over just before the start of the third quarter against Sycamore in Nashville, Tenn. on Thursday, August 29, 2019.

“I am excited to see where Coach Scott will lead our program," Stratford principal Michael Steele said. "He is sharp and talented, but most importantly, he loves young people."

He replaces Thomas Porter, who left the Spartans to take an assistant position at Davidson Academy in mid-June.

Porter led Stratford to the Class 3A state semifinals in 2018, finishing 5-9, then guided the Spartans to an 8-4 mark the following season, reaching the second round of the playoffs. The team went 18-25 in his four seasons.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
