Monterey Battles Clay County, Coalfield In Three-Way Scrimmage

Story and Photos by Rusty Ellis

The Monterey Wildcats and Clay County Bulldogs were both in action against Coalfield on Friday night.

Clay County’s physicality was on display from the jump, as the backfield duo of Joseph Marcom and Alec Kerr combined for four touchdowns in the scrimmage. Quarterback Keaton Arms added a passing touchdown to Jimmy Burchett in the earlier periods, and ran for a couple of his own as well.

Monterey’s defense had some lapses early on, but made a key fourth-down stop in the goal-line drills against Coalfield. The offense began to get things going late in the scrimmage, as some big runs from Mason Bowman and a big catch-and-run from Michael Allred gave the Wildcats some steam.
