Tennessee commitment Nathan Robinson in no mood for moral victories after White House loss

WHITE HOUSE – Nathan Robinson was in no mood for moral victories Thursday night.

High-praise and compliments were being thrown at the three-star Tennessee defensive line commitment following Greenbrier's game against White House.

Opposing players, coaches and fans all had something to say about Robinson's 11-tackle night and while the gestures were nice, Robinson wasn't having any of it.

The number that was on Robinson's mind was the scoreboard and it didn't read in the Bobcats' favor. Robinson and his teammates walked off the field following a 20-18 loss to the Blue Devils, making Greenbrier winless two weeks into the season.

"I mean as an individual to hear the compliments, it means I'm doing my job," Robinson said. "That really means nothing though if we don't win. We get that close and just can't make the play at the end."

Robinson's tackle production in the loss led the Bobcats and he also finished with two receptions for 41 yards including a 33-yard reception in the first quarter that led to the Bobcats' first touchdown.

Outside of that early production, the Blue Devils (1-1) were going to force someone else on Greenbrier (0-2) to beat them.

The Blue Devils ran for 233 yards in the win led by a game-high 136 from sophomore Michael Albin.

Albin split time at quarterback and running back for the Blue Devils. He said Robinson was in the Blue Devils' gameplan.

"We kind of game planned around him because we really didn't want to run at him" Albin said. "When we did, I felt like we were able to do some good things. He really is an excellent player.

"Tonight I think we were able to handle him and their defense as a whole well."

Isolating Robinson on the corner and taking advantage of senior linebacker DJ Jackson being out with a wrist injury, the Blue Devils scored all three of their touchdowns with runs up the middle.

Albin scored twice from three yards and 70 yards out while Dion Gunter scored on a 33-yard run to start the fourth quarter.

"We all knew week what to expect with Nathan because we've played them the last few years and he's a phenomenal player," White House coach Ryan Hamilton said. "He's everywhere on the field, but we told our guys it's no different than any other week.

"They just needed to understand the game plan, do the little things right and everything would work itself out in the end."

Greenbrier's Nathan Robinson (19) runs the ball against White House during the first quarter in White House, Tenn., Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022.

Ready for the Vols to start

The loss may have soured Robinson's mood after the game, but the mention of Tennessee football getting ready to kickoff its 2022 season instantly brought a smile back to his face.

Robinson said that he will likely take a visit to the Vols second home game against Akron and will try to make more throughout the year.

On the recruiting front, Robinson is pleased with where the Vols stand. 247Sports has Tennessee ranked 11th in the country and Robinson hopes that number only continues to rise over the next few months.

"Defensively, recruiting has been really positive," Robinson said. "It's really nice to see the amount of high-talent defensive backs and linebackers we've been able to get. We have to push for a few more defensive linemen so we can compete in the SEC trenches but I know we'll be able to make it happen."
