McKenzie Rebels Claim Win Over Obion County

McKENZIE (September 9) — McKenzie Rebels are 4-0 after defeating the Obion County Rebels 49-14 on Randy Thomas Field on Friday, September 9. The senior-heavy MHS Rebels controlled the game on offense and defense, leaving the visitors feeling the strength of the 2021 Class 1A runners-up.
 
McKenzie had 49 plays 290 yards of which was 105 passing from Jackson Cassidy and Tate Surber, 185 yards rushing, 16 first downs.
 
Obion County had 43 plays, 116 yards of which 74 were passing and 42 rushing and eight first downs.
 
McKenzie scored first after MHS’s Camden Allison recovered a fumbled kickoff catch by Obion County followed up by a Marquez Taylor 14-yard run with Zach Aird adding the one-point PAT.
 
Obion County equalized the score with a Johnny Light 3-yard run and the PAT.
 
Then the McKenzie Rebels responded with 42 unanswered points. Marquez Taylor scored on a two-yard run, 33-yard run, 5-yard run, and 4-yard run. QB Jackson Cassidy had a 2-yard run, Camden Allison had a 11-yard run, and Zach Aird was perfect on scoring seven PATs total.
 
Obion County added its second score of the evening on a 33-yard pass-rush to Jamaad Mosley and Ben Sharp added the PAT for a final score of 49-14.
 
MHS QB Jackson Cassidy was 5 for 9 on passing for 73 yards. He personally made one TD.
 
OC’s QB Ben Sharp was 4 of 8 on passing attempts for 61 yards.
 
MHS rushing included Marquez Taylor for 20 rushes for 177 yards and 5 TDs; Brady Brewer had 2 rushes for 20 yards; Etijay Tharpe had one rush for 9 yards; Jackson Cassidy had four rushes.
 
MHS receiving was: Zach Aird for 2 for 36 yards; Stafford Roditis had 1 reception for 24 yards; E. Tharpe had 1 reception for 19 yards; and Camden Allison had 1 reception for 11 yards.
 
MHS tackles included: Rashad McCreary with 5; Elijah Edmonson with 4; Tate Surber with 2; Brady Brewer 2; Jackson Cassidy 1; David Cheney with 1; Drew Chappell with 1; Ace Fisher with 1.
 
MHS kickoff returns include Drew Chappell with 1 for 18 yards and Mason Batten with one for 11 yards.
 
MHS kickoffs were by Stafford Roditis for 7 with 316 yards; Zach Aird had 1 for 58 yards; and Landon Brown had 1 for 7 yards.
 
McKenzie punted once in the contest with Roditis punting for 40 yards.
 
McKenzie travels to Perry County on September 16 to face Perry County. Game time is 7 p.m.
