CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Northeast running back Khameron Athy is the Clarksville Now Player of the Week following his career game against Rossview High on Friday, Sept. 9.

Athy played a major role in the Eagles’ 34-20 comeback victory against the Hawks. The running back finished the night with 17 carries for 322 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

One of those touchdowns included a 95-yard rushing touchdown that put Northeast ahead in the final quarter of play. Three of Athy’s four scores came from 50 yards out.

“I was very appreciative my team was able to come together and combine as one,” said Athy. “We played exactly how I know we can play, and it was hard to grasp what we accomplished this past Friday night. It was epic to be honest with you.”

2022-23 season

Athy has remained a lethal offensive weapon for Northeast since the beginning of the season. In total, he has compiled 46 carries for 629 yards.

That means that Athy has averaged 157.25 rushing yards per game. In addition, he has averaged 13.67 yards per carry up to this point in the season as well. Even after everything Athy has accomplished thus far, he stated that it’s important to continue to grow and not become complacent.

“It’s important to stay humble throughout this process,” said Athy. “As a team, we need to take it one game at a time and understand everything is not going to go our way. I told my boys, it’s important for us to keep going until the season’s over with.”

Coaches corner

“Khameron is a special player due to the energy he brings to the team,” said Northeast Head Coach Claude Townsend. “I see a lot of myself in him and you can tell how much he wants it. He’s all about football and when he takes the field he means all business.”

“I think our entire team can learn from Khameron when it comes to his energy and the fact that he never makes excuses. His energy and mindset translates on the field because he’s a fast, strong and determined running back.”
