The Franklin County High School girls soccer team beat the Coffee County Lady Raiders 9-0 on the road Thursday for the team’s eighth win of the season.
Franklin County scored early and often in the district contest and was able to ultimately end the game a few minutes early via the mercy rule.
Libby Vincent got the scoring started for Franklin County as she fired a shot into the net about two minutes into the game for her seventh goal of the season.
Ella Masters then scored two goals in the next five minutes to make it a 3-0 game early in the first half. Masters has seven goals so far this season for Franklin County.
Bella Bravo rounded out the scoring in the first half for Franklin County as she put in a shot for her third goal of the year.
Franklin County led 4-0 at halftime.
Franklin County’s offense got rolling again about 15 minutes into the second half with Osiris Rodriguez scoring on a shot that deflected off of a defender for her seventh goal of the season.
Irene Marticorena followed with her second goal of the season off of a corner-kick assist by Baylor Russell, and Russell scored a goal of her own off of an assist by Rodriguez to make it a 7-0 game. Russell has scored nine goals this year for Franklin County.
Caitlyn Cashion brought the lead up to 8-0 with 13 minutes remaining as she netted her second goal of the campaign.
The final goal of the day came with about three minutes left on the clock as Cali Banks found the net to trigger the mercy rule and end the contest immediately. It was Banks’ second goal of the season.
With the win, Franklin County improved to 8-3-2 on the season and 5-0 in district play.
The girls soccer team will next play Tuesday at home against Warren County High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
