Hampton claimed the Region 1-2A title in style.
The Bulldogs scored early and often to cruise to a 58-8 victory over Cumberland Gap at JC Campbell Stadium on Friday night.
With the win, Hampton clinched the Region 1-2A Championship as well as the No. 1 seed. The Bulldogs also earned home-field advantage through the first three rounds of the playoffs.
Hampton struck early.
On the first play from scrimmage, Dylan Trivett hit Chance Point for a 52-yard touchdown pass, while Levi Lunsford added the two-point conversion.
Trivett and Point connected later in the quarter – this time from 39 yards out – as Hampton took a 16-0 lead just past the midpoint of the quarter.
Jonathon Greenwell pushed the lead to 24-0 with a 42-yard score.
Lunsford opened the second quarter by scoring with a short five-yard run.
Hampton saw Dominique Burleson score from 28 yards out, while Trivett capped the first-half scoring with a 25-yard touchdown.
The Bulldogs led 45-0 at the half.
In the third quarter, Weston Hicks got in the scoring act with a seven-yard touchdown run.
Luke Belcher rounded out the Hampton scoring attack with a 65-yard touchdown in the fourth.
Lunsford finished with 157 yards for the Bulldogs. Point added four extra point kicks, while Lunsford had three two-point conversion runs.
Trivett ended the night with three total touchdowns.
