Falcons travel to Mt. Juliet; Fayetteville hosts South Fulton
Lincoln County
Class 5A, Region 6
Lincoln County Falcons
(2-8 overall, 2-3 region)
vs.
Mt. Juliet Golden Bears
(8-2 overall, 6-0 region)
Last meeting: Lincoln County won 31-6 in 2000
Series: Lincoln County leads the series 4-0
Last week: Lincoln County lost 38-3 to Page; Mt. Juliet won over Green Hill 26-19
Overview: Mt. Juliet comes in averaging 34.7 points per game this season, and they give up 16.7 defensively.
On paper it looks like a mismatch between the Falcons and the Bears but that could be a little deceiving. Both teams have a common opponent, the Lebanon Blue Devils. Lebanon easily defeated Lincoln County earlier this year. The Devils also easily beat Mt. Juliet 27-6.
The Falcons must establish a run game to have any chance of pulling off a huge upset. Last week’s performance from Lincoln County will not beat Mt. Juliet, but this is the playoffs and it’s one and done now. The Falcons have earned the right to be in the playoffs and anything can happen.
Fayetteville
Class 1A, Region 5
Fayetteville Tigers
(10-0 overall, 6-0 region)
vs.
South Fulton Red Devils
(5-5 overall, 3-3 region)
Last meeting: First meeting
Series: First meeting
Last week: Fayetteville defeated Eagleville 52-6; South Fulton defeated Gleason 18-6
Overview: Fayetteville didn’t play in the most competitive region this season. Moore County is the only team in the region that even threatened the Tigers. Fayetteville never lost focus and smacked every team in and out of their region to finish 10-0.
South Fulton comes from a difficult region and had to win last week to make the playoffs. The Devils get the reward of rolling into Tiger Hill and going eye to eye with the state’s No. 1-ranked team. Fayetteville should be known as the “Dream Crushers.” South Fulton will come in dreaming of winning the state title this Friday, but the Tigers will be waiting, and South Fulton will see those dreams end. South Fulton just happens to be next for Fayetteville. Nothing personal Red Devils.
