Harpeth Hall sweeps, Luke Thompson's win highlight Day 1 of TSSAA cross country state meets

The final two days of the Tennessee high school cross country season is here and the first of the two days was a successful one for Middle Tennessee runners and teams.

In total, three Midstate runners finished as state champions, while Harpeth Hall repeated as the Division II-AA team champion.

The day started off with a pair of repeats as Harpeth Hall senior Bella Guillamondegui repeated as the Division II-AA champion. Guillamondegui cruised as she finished with a time of 17:54.68 and was nearly a full minute ahead of the second-place runner from the Webb School of Knoxville.

As a team, Harpeth Hall had three runners finish in the top-10. The Honey Bears finished with 51 points, while second-place Webb School of Knoxville had 98.

There was no repeat in the second race as Brentwood Academy junior Luke Thompson finished first with a time 15:16.09 and ahead of the second-place runner from McCallie by two seconds.

Defending champion Keegan Smith out Knoxville Catholic finished fourth and McCallie won its fourth consecutive team title.

Tennessee senior Zoe Arrington won the girls Class A-AA race with a time of 19:08.35 and Signal Mountain won the team title by 26 points.

The final race of the day was another exciting one as Creek Wood senior Jackson Martin edged Camden's Will Jackson by four seconds to repeat as the Class A-AA boys champion. Martin finished with a time of 15:37.95, while Signal Mountain swept the team titles with their boys beating Central Magnet by 30.
