Unaka had an upset in mind Friday night. However, the Rangers were unable to keep pace late.

Unaka was unable to answer a strong second half from Coalfield as the rangers dropped a hard-fought 55-12 decision to Coalfield in the Class A playoffs on Friday night.

Unaka, fresh off the program’s first playoff win in the first round, didn’t back down in the first quarter.

After Coalfield opened the scoring with a short Coalton Henry touchdown, TJ Thomas answered as he caught a 64-yard touchdown pass from Landon Ramsey to pull the Rangers within 7-6.

The Yellow Jackets answered with a strong drive that ended the endzone, but Unaka answered once again as Joe-Z Blamo caught a pass for an acrobatic catch and a 30-yard touchdown to pull UHS back within two.

Early in the second, Unaka had a chance to take the lead as they moved inside the Coalfield 10, but they were stopped on fourth down.

The Yellow Jackets pushed the lead to 27-12 at the half.

Unaka continued to battle in the second half but was unable to answer a strong second half by Coalfield.
