The Franklin County Rebelettes beat the Scottsboro Lady Wildcats 61-55 at home Thursday for their first win of the season.
The Rebelettes jumped out to an early lead and stayed in front for most of the night to secure a victory in the home matchup.
The Rebelettes scored the first six points of the contest to establish an immediate advantage over the Lady Wildcats.
They led 12-7 after one quarter.
The Lady Wildcats cut the lead down to a single point multiple times in a high-scoring second quarter for both teams, but the Rebelettes were able to hold them off and stay in front through the end of the half.
Franklin County led 37-30 at halftime.
The Lady Wildcats scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to take what would ultimately be their only lead of the day. The Rebelettes answered back with an 8-0 run to retake the advantage before the period ended.
They led 45-41 going into the final period.
The Rebelettes started the fourth quarter with a 9-3 run to briefly push the lead up to double digits before the Lady Wildcats rallied to make it a three-point game late in the period.
However, free throws from Katie Walker and Baylor Russell would give the Rebelettes some breathing room on the scoreboard as they finished off the six-point win.
Walker led the Rebelettes with 16 points for the game, followed by Na’Kayjah Holman and Madison King with 12 points each.
Russell scored seven points, Danica Stovall and Paislie Edge scored five points each, Aahna Carter scored three and Mikah Brannon scored one.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 1-1 on the season.
They will next play Monday at Whitwell High School in a first-round game for the Whitwell Thanksgiving Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
