It didn't take long for Kenny Minchey to figure out what his next step would be following his decommitment from Pittsburgh on Nov. 14.

The four-star Pope John Paul II senior quarterback announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Tuesday. The decision comes after Minchey took an official visit to South Bend last week during the Irish's 44-0 win over Boston College.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Minchey is the 24th commitment in Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman's 2023 class and the Irish's 20th four-star commitment. He is the lone quarterback commitment for Notre Dame's class as well.

Minchey is ranked as the No. 206 player in the country, the No. 12 quarterback in the country and the No. 4 player in the state for the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite.

Minchey originally committed on April 30 to the Panthers. However, Notre Dame offered Minchey on July 30 and was the only other school to offer him following his commitment to Pitt.

After starting the first four games of the season, Minchey missed the last six of the regular season due to a shoulder injury before coming back for Pope's first round playoff game. He reaggravated that shoulder injury in the Knights' next game against Brentwood Academy ending his season.

Minchey finished the season completing 69% of his passes for 1,007 yards with 15 touchdowns to only three interceptions.

For his high school career, Minchey completed 63% of his passes 5,451 yards and 57 touchdowns with only 13 interceptions. The Knights were 16-9 in games that Minchey started and as a junior he was one of the Midstate's best quarterbacks statistically throwing for 3,280 yards and 32 touchdowns.

He will join former David Crockett standout and 2020 Class 5A Mr. Football winner Prince Collie as the only two players from Tennessee on Notre Dame's roster. Minchey is also the second player in recent history from Pope John Paul II to commit to the Irish joining Golden Tate.

Tate graduated from Pope in 2007 and played at Notre Dame from 2007-09 where he caught 157 passes for 2,707 yards and 26 touchdowns. He won the Biletnikoff Award in 2009 before going on to have an 11-year career in the NFL.
