Powers has another amazing performance as Warriorettes win over Baylor Lady Bulldogs

Posted

As recently reported, Nia Powers had a huge game in leading the Warriorettes to a tough win over Red Boiling Springs. Powers scored 35 points against the Lady Bulldogs.  It would be hard to imagine her being able to better that performance against private school powerhouse Baylor in the Warriorettes’ third game in two days.  However, on Dec. 20, that is exactly what she did.  Powers scored 39 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Warriorettes pulled away from a good Baylor team to win by 22 points.

Powers received help from Ava Jones and Lexi Golden in the first period as the teams battled in a back-and-forth affair.  The Lady Red Raiders would tie or take the lead only to see the Warriorettes take it right back. Powers had 11 points in the first quarter, and the Warriorettes led by a score of 17-14.

The game remained close throughout the second quarter.  The Warriorettes played hard but so did the Lady Red Raiders.  Baylor even had a 2-point lead, at 28-26, midway through the quarter.  Powers continued to dominate inside, collecting rebound after rebound and scoring with both her right and left hands.  KK McDonald hit two huge 3s in the quarter, and the Warriorettes led 35-32 at halftime.

Lexi Golden and KB Frazier joined in on the scoring with Powers in the third quarter. Powers did the majority of the heavy lifting, however.  The well-coached Baylor team tried to double and triple team Powers, but nothing worked. She was unstoppable.  The score was 54-48 going into the final period.

The ladies from Sparta stepped on the gas pedal during the final quarter.  The Warriorettes were finally able to pull away.  The final score on the night was 77-55 in favor of the Warriorettes.

Along with Powers’ 39 points, McDonald scored 11, Ava Jones scored 9, and Lexi Golden had 7.  The win put the Warriorettes in the championship game of the Frank’s Christmas Shootout with the powerful York Lady Dragons.
