Knoxville Webb announced Tuesday that Don Mahoney will be its next football coach. He replaces David Meske who had coached the Spartans for 38 seasons.

Mahoney will also be Webb's associate director of student-athlete development.

"I want to thank President Michael McBrien, athletic director and football coach, David Meske, President-elect Ansel Sanders, and newly-appointed athletic director, Dan Gill, for this opportunity,” Mahoney said in a school release. "The administration, faculty, coaches, and most importantly the students, make Webb a special place … I am excited about being at Webb and proud to be a Spartan!"

Mahoney's coaching career spans 25 years starting as the tight ends coach/travel coordinator/camp director for Central Michigan University in 1995.

“Don brings a tremendous amount of coaching experience to Webb School,” Meske said in a school release. “He is committed to the mission of our school and will help develop our student-athletes to their fullest potential. And as football coach, Don will be dedicated to making sure our players excel as student-athletes both on and off the field.”

Last season, he was the offensive line coach when Webb went 10-1 and advanced to the Division II-AA state semifinals.

Mahoney brings with him college coaching experience. He spent four seasons, as the offensive line coach at Tennessee from 2013-16 and before that was an offensive line coach at Cincinnati for two years.

Following Mahoney's stint with the Vols, he served as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Concord University and offensive line coach at East Carolina.
