CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Rossview High junior forward Landon Hankemeier has received Clarksville Now Player of the Week honors following a career night in scoring last week.

Rossview High boys’ basketball went into last week with a three-game winning streak. After facing Springfield High and Northeast High, the Hawks extended their winning streak to five games. Hankemeier played a key role in each win from last week.

During their away game against Springfield on Tuesday, Jan. 10, Rossview owned their opponent in each quarter of the game. The Clarksville-area team won by a score of 72-54. Hankemeier finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block.

The junior forward followed up a solid performance against Springfield by setting a career high in points the following game.

Rossview traveled to Northeast High on Friday, Jan. 13, and that’s where Hankemeier dropped 26 points, which included him draining 6 three-pointers. In addition, he also secured 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

2022-23 season

Hankemeier has arguably been the Hawks’ best player throughout the 2022-23 season. According to Max Preps, the junior leads his team in scoring and is averaging 11.4 points per game. He is one of three players averaging double figures in points for Rossview.

Coaches corner

“Landon has a motor, he’s very athletic and he’s a guy who does all the dirty work for our team,” said Rossview Head Coach Johnny Jackson. “He always goes to the glass on both ends and he’s just a junkyard dog type of player. He’s not too flashy, outside making 6 three-pointers the other night.

“On the year he’s shooting around 38% from three. Landon’s a kid who can do all kinds of different things for us and he’s definitely a hard guard. After starting last year for most of the season, he’s grown tremendously with his game and with his leadership. He still has a high ceiling where he can get even better than he is today,” said Jackson.

Rossview boys’ basketball (14-4) is currently riding a 6-game winning streak after a win against Northwest High this week. Their next game is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 19, when they will be taking on their rival in the Clarksville High Wildcats (0-15). The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Honorable mention

Several other players had great weeks on the basketball court. Here are some that merit special mention:

  • Kenwood High’s Jakoby Cox who finished their one game last week with a double-double and a pair of blocks.
  • Montgomery Central’s Hayden Boyd averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds last week through two games.
