Warriors defeated by #1 Livingston Academy

Coach Eric Mitchell’s White County Warrior team rolled into Livingston on 1/10 to take on the #1 ranked 3A team in the state.  The Wildcats were 15-0 on the season coming into the game.  It was standing room only in Livingston Academy’s gym as the two teams came together to battle it out. The game would prove to be a great one that would come down to the wire to decide a winner.

The Wildcats got out to an early lead to start the game. The Wildcats scored the first five points before Jakeb Davis hit a three pointer.  Livingston would immediately match Davis’ three.  Thomas Brock would hit two three pointers and Davis would add another in the quarter and the #1 team found themselves in a dogfight with the Warriors. The score was tied at 14 after a quarter of play.

Livingston would take the lead in the second quarter. White County would go cold from the field and Livingston got hot.  The Wildcats went on an 8-0 run. The Warriors only scored 7 points in the quarter.  Brock hit a deep three.  Trip Pinion and Christian Henderson both scored with hustle plays off rebounds and steals. However,  the Warriors found themselves down by 7 points going into the half.

The Warriors came out in the second half determined to fight the Wildcats till the final buzzer.  Coach Mitchell had to be proud of his team’s effort.  Although the Wildcats were able to get the lead to 9 points late in the third quarter, the Warriors refused to back down.  Tripp Pinion played hard and tallied 7 points in the quarter. Jackson Young came in off the bench and hit a nice three pointer. Thomas Brock continued to play hard  and scored a couple of baskets in the quarter. The Warriors had the lead down to 5 going into the final quarter.

Trip Pinion started the fourth quarter with a three that pulled the Warriors within 2 points at 42-40.  The referees got involved in the game and made a couple of critical calls that went against the Warriors.  Coach Mitchell was called for a technical foul when it appeared to many in the crowd that he was simply trying to call for a time out. Thomas Brock, Thomas Paul, and Christian Henderson all hit huge three pointers as the Warriors refused to give up and kept fighting. With 39 seconds to go in the game the Warriors were down by one point but had the ball with a chance to play for the final shot.  The clock ticked down as the Warriors dribbled the ball waiting to spring into action.  The offense was able to get Jakeb Davis a good look at a basket to win the game with 9 seconds left.  The ball rimmed out and the Wildcats were able to secure the rebound and the game after hitting a couple of free throws.  The final score was 55-52 in favor of the Wildcats.

Thomas Brock had 13 points on the night. Tripp Pinion had 12 points.  Jakeb Davis and Thomas Paul both had 9 points. Christian Henderson had 6 points and Jackson Young had 3.
