Dyersburg picks up elite scorer from Covington

Dyersburg State soccer- coached by Robert Luttrell- adds Covington standout Laney Oliver to their fall roster.

Oliver- who plays forward- is a scoring machine that has played varsity all four seasons. She made the all-district team all four years, was named Offensive Player of Year two of those years and finished with a career of 117 goals made.

Luttrell stated that she is “good at finishing the ball.”

While it may sound easy, it is a very difficult tactic to master in the soccer world.

“A lot of people can kick a ball, a lot of people can take a shot, but not many people can finish. She can put a ball where she wants to put a ball for the most part.” He added.

Her secret to scoring is simple: when approaching a player, she “crosses” them really quick and shoot the ball.

“And hope it goes in.” Oliver said with a laugh.

Oliver will join her fellow teammate, Sarah Richardson, who signed with the Eagles last month.
