CHS’s Owen Signs To Play Football At Brown

Cookeville senior Brock Owen took the next step in his athletic and academic journey on Tuesday, as he signed his NLI to play football at Brown University after graduation.

For Owen, there were plenty of factors in his decision such as the presence of one of his brothers and the quality of academics at Brown.

“It feels great, it’s something I’ve always dreamed of,” Owen said. “I can’t wait to be living near (Stockton Owen), I don’t have to go miss my whole family…academically, once I finish my four years, I’m going to be set up for whatever I want to do.”

The recruiting process for Owen really ramped up once he sent his senior season tape to the staff. That then turned into an offer and his commitment was easy from there.

“There weren’t super interested during my junior year,” Owen said. “Around fall break this year, they offered me and a couple weeks later, I committed…I’ve been up there a couple times, but I had a junior day right before summer. After I committed, I went on an official visit and it was really great.”

His current head coach Taylor Hennigan knows that the Cavalier program will have a tall task in replacing Owen, both on and off the field.

“The off-the-field leadership and consistency was very evident when I got here last year,” Hennigan said. “On the field, he kicked and punted, he played receiver and he played linebacker one game…those are the first things that really stand out.”

And Hennigan believes that Owen is ready for this next step.

“When you first think of Brown, you think of the high quality academics,” Hennigan said. “That’s something he’s really strong in…I always thought he would be at that FCS-level, whether it was the Ivy League or another FCS school. He’s going to have an opportunity to help on special teams right away, but he’s got the athleticism to play skill-positions as well.”
