The Chester County Basketball teams are representing the county well in district play as they both lead the district with a district record of 2-0.
This lead comes after both the Eaglettes and Eagles defeated McNairy Central and Hardin County last week.
On Tuesday, January 24, the Eaglettes had no trouble in defeating McNairy Central. With team leaders Jariyah Williamson (24 points) and Annabelle Lockridge (19 points) leading them, they defeated the Lady Bobcats 50-36.
The Eaglettes’ victory over the Hardin County Lady Tigers proved to be a little more difficult but nothing they could not handle.
Hardin County was able to continously hit threes in the first half of the game which helped them have the halftime lead of 23-21 with 21 of the 23 points being from the three-point line.
The second half started with a three by Williamson to give the Eaglettes the lead.
The Chester County girls were able to keep Hardin’s threes to a minimum in the second half. This enabled them to eventually have a good lead over Hardin County and win with a final of 49-32.
The Eagles game against McNairy Central was close in the first half with the halftime score being 34-33 with Chester County on top.
It was not until the seocnd half that the Eagles started to control the court and win 88-76.
The boys game of Chester County and Hardin County ended up being a nail-biter.
At the end of the first quarter, the Chester County Eagles had a six-point lead over Hardin County, but the lead got cut in half by halftime to a three-point lead of 34-31.
It looked good for the Eagles at the end of the third as they had a 47-37 lead, but Hardin County was not done fighting.
With 6:12 left in the game, the Tigers started to try to make a comeback and get out of the ten-point deficit. From then on, the score remained very close.
After more shots and time were taken, Hardin County hit a fadeaway shot near the basket to only be down by one-point, 58-57, with 27.9 seconds left.
Then the referees called the ball out of bounds on the Eagles twice. At that point, Hardin tried to get one last shot but it was blocked, and the Eagles passed the ball down court to Chad Barham for icing on the cake with two more points making it a 60-57 victory for the Eagles.
The only team they have yet to face is Lexington, and they will play them at Lexington at 6 p.m. Saturday night, February 4, instead of the scheduled game that was supposed to occur Tuesday, January 31.
