Lady Warrior Rally Comes Up Short In District 1-2A Semifinals

Happy Valley was unable to complete a late rally on Thursday night.

The No. 3 Lady Warriors dropped a hard-fought 45-31 decision to No. 2 Chuckey-Doak in the District 1-2A Girls semifinals at David Crockett High School in Jonesborough.

Happy Valley will take on No. 4 West Greene in the consolation game on Monday at 6p at David Crockett, and will open the District 1-2A tournament on the road.

Thursday’s game saw points hard to come by in the opening minutes.

Marcida Moore scored five points in the opening eight minutes for the Lady Warriors, but Chuckey-Doak took a 9-5 advantage after the first quarter.

HV answered quickly as Josephine Zeoli hit a 3-pointer that sparked a 7-2 HV run. The Lady Warriors took the lead on a Moore bucket, but the Lady Black Knights answered with a 7-0 run to end the half to take a 20-14 halftime advantage.

After CD pushed the lead to eight points, Moore hit three free throws, but HV trailed by seven after three complete.

Cayden Anderson opened the fourth with a 3-pointer and HV cut the deficit to one point as Mailey Guy hit two free throws.

However, Chuckey-Doak held Happy Valley scoreless over the final four minutes to secure the win.

Moore led Happy Valley with 11 points, while Anderson had 10 points. Guy scored five points for HV.
