Northeast football coach Claude Townsend is currently under suspension pending the results of an internal investigation into potential misconduct, Clarksville-Montgomery School System chief communications officer Anthony Johnson confirmed to The Leaf-Chronicle.

Johnson said that Townsend's suspension began Feb. 14, and he was ordered not to report to Northeast for any coaching duties.

The alleged misconduct does not involve any students, Johnson said.

Johnson did not provide any other information on the specifics or timetable of the investigation.

Townsend was hired last February and led the Eagles to a 5-6 record in his first season. Northeast forfeited a September win over Northwest due to using an ineligible player, which the school self-reported to the TSSAA.

Townsend is a non-faculty employee at Northeast and does not teach at the school.
