CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The head football coach for Northeast High School, Claude Townsend, has been dismissed following an investigation by the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

The investigation involved inappropriate contact and communication with another employee on school grounds, according to CMCSS spokesman Anthony Johnson.

Once the investigation concluded, it was determined that no actions were illegal, “but administration felt it was best to move in another direction with leadership over the football program,” Johnson told Clarksville Now.

Northeast High administration will begin their search for a new head football coach for the second consecutive season; they stated that they will support the team and assistant coaches as they focus on a strong season in the fall.

Townsend was hired as Northeast head coach in February 2022. During his tenure, he compiled a record of 5-6 and lost in the opening round of the playoffs.

“I want to thank Northeast for the opportunity to coach at the high school level,” Townsend told Clarksville Now. “It was a dream of mine, especially with the success that we did have. I enjoyed coaching the players at Northeast, which including 23 seniors, six of whom will go on to play football at the next level. There’s a lot of talent in Clarksville, and I hope whoever picks it up does a great job also.”
