CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – According to a press release from Clarksville Academy, Cougars head football coach Scott Murray has resigned after two seasons with the program.

During his tenure with Clarksville Academy, Murray led the school to a 13-8 record, which included compiling a 7-4 record during the 2022–23 season. The Cougars were one of three teams that made a trip to the playoffs this past season as well.

In the press release, Clarksville Academy credited Murray for the foundation he built over the two years he coached at the school.

“When he began, the Cougars had low numbers on their squad, and in the past two seasons, Murray has encouraged more student-athletes to join the program,” the press release said. “The 2022 senior class of nine football players had four sign for collegiate football. The class of 2023, Murray had eleven seniors, one of which has already signed with NCAA, Division-I, Southeast Missouri State University.”

“Coach Murray has been a valuable resource in CA Athletics, and we will miss his leadership on the football field,” said Clarksville Academy Athletic Director Matt Hoppe. “We wish Scott, Pam and Xavier the best in their new adventures.”

Clarksville Academy athletics will begin the search for a new head football coach immediately. As for Murray, he leaves the Clarksville Academy with the following message:

“My family and I have truly enjoyed our experience here at Clarksville Academy,” he said. “We have met some amazing people, surrounded by family relationship and a family atmosphere for the last two years that we’ve truly loved.”

“Unfortunately, we’ve come across some options that are better for our family, and after a lot of soul searching and praying, we have decided to move in a different direction. We wish nothing but luck and good things for the future coach and the future teams here at Clarksville Academy. The last thing I’ll say is that I love these kids, I’ll always love these kids and the players that have played for me will always be my sons.”
