CORNERSVILLE — An eight-run fourth-inning was more than enough to land the Cornersville Bulldogs their second win of the week on Tuesday night against visiting Santa Fe.
Cornersville scored in every inning and plated a 14th run in the bottom of the fifth to reach the 10-run rule limit as the ‘Dawgs beat Santa Fe, 14-4.
Early on, it looked like the game might become a good old fashioned shootout as both teams plated three runs in the first inning and added a fourth in the second frame.
But starting pitcher Peyton Cherry settled in and locked down the Wildcats’ bats through the final three innings.
He gave up just four runs on four hits, but only one of which was earned, while striking out 11 batters in the process.
With Cherry dealing on the mound, the Bulldogs’ bats took care of Santa Fe pitching through the remainder of the game.
Gage Lovell went 2-for-2 with two RBIs to his credit.
Tanner Pease also went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs driven in as well.
Beau Schillig accounted for the other extra base hit for Cornersville as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI as well.
The Bulldogs are back on the road on Thursday night, traveling to Culleoka for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

CORNERSVILLE 12, SANTA FE 1
SANTA FE — Cornersville got off to a red-hot start to the 2023 season on Monday afternoon, blasting Santa Fe 12-1.
The Bulldogs got a steady mix of timely hitting and an excellent outing by starting pitcher Beau Schillig.
Schillig pitched all six innings for the Bulldogs and gave up just one unearned run on two hits while striking out 10.
The Bulldogs struck early and scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, but played add on with a three-spot in the top of the fourth and put the game out of reach with an eight-run sixth inning to slam the door shut on the Wildcats.
Of the Bulldogs’ seven hits, only Colyn Schillig recorded an extra base hit.
Gage Lovell went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Blaine Woodard, Logan Terry, Peyton Cherry and Ayden Campbell all singled as well.
