WATERTOWN – Defending 2A state champion Watertown kicked off the 2023 season with a doubleheader sweep over Trousdale County High Wednesday by scores of 4-0 and 10-0.
The Purple Tigers made the most of four hits in Wednesday’s opener as KJ Wood singled and stoles two bases, Kwame Seay added a pair of singles and two steals., Kaiden West singled and Cyrus Bennett drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Charlie Mitchell started and worked four innings for the decision, scattering three hits, striking out 10 without a walk.
Mitchell was followed to the mound by Zack Self who earned a save by striking out six over three innings, working around two walks and a hit.
Wednesday’s nightcap was all Watertown as the Tigers scored 10 runs on eight hits.
CJ Potter drove in five runs with a triple and a double, Chase Young tripled to drive in two, Self had an RBI double while Bennett, Bo Price and Bret Price all had singles.
Zeb Major went four innings for the decision in Game two, striking out 11 and allowing just one hit. Major hit three batters with no walks.
Watertown was scheduled to travel to Gainesboro Thursday, March 16 for a 6 p.m. game v. Jackson County High.
Wilson Central falls 9-5 to Nolensville
GLADEVILLE – Wilson Central dropped to 0-2 on the season following Wednesday’s 9-5 loss to Nolensville High.
The Knights broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the top of the fourth.
Central battled back with two in the fourth and two more in the fifth, only to see Nolensville tack on five runs in the top of the sixth.
Outfielder Isaac Schafer paced the Wildcats’ offense with a double and two singles in four at bats, driving in one.
Brayden Wadsworth added a two-run single and Caden Webber delivered an RBI single.
Michael Demonbreun started for Wilson Central and gave up five hits, two earned runs, striking out four in four innings and was not involved in the decision.
Webber relieved and was tagged with the loss, allowing four earned runs in 1.1 innings.
Wilson Central is scheduled to be back in action Thursday at 6:30 p.m. as the Wildcats play host to Shelbyville Central.
On Friday, WCHS will take on Columbia Central at Riverdale High. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Station Camp 3, Wilson Central 1
GALLATIN – Wilson Central opened the 2023 season with a 3-1 loss to Station Camp.
The Bison snapped a 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Luke Kinzer led the Wildcats with two hits in three at-bats and an RBI. Issac Schafer, Micheal Demonbreun and Kaden Webber also had one hit each.
Schafer gave up three hits over five innings and was tagged with the loss, allowing just three hits while striking out seven.
Beech 4, Lebanon 1
SHACKLE ISLAND – Porter McNeece limited Lebanon (0-3) to six hits and struck out nine in five innings of work to help lead Beech to a 4-1 win over the Blue Devils Wednesday afternoon.
Connor Gannon had a pair of hits and drove in Lebanon’s only run in the top of the fifth.
Leadoff man Wyatt Bowling singled twice and stole two bases while Tal Swindell, Cooper Hays. Evan driver and Jackson Lea all had singles.

FRANKLIN – Down 14-9, Page scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh, including the game-winner on a passed ball in a 15-14 win over Lebanon Tuesday.
The Blue Devils piled up 12 hits in the , including doubles from Evan Driver, Jordan Jewell and Jackson Lea, but stranded seven runners on base.
Four Lebanon pitchers combined to surrender eight hits and nine walks while striking out nine and allowing just four earned runs.
The Blue Devils will play Smyrna Friday, March 17 in a 4:30 p.m. game at Blackman High before playing host to Clarksville Academy Saturday at Brent Foster Field. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
