MURFREESBORO – Hampton won its first TSSAA boys basketball state championship in 63 years, ending Middleton's title hopes with a 51-43 win Saturday in the Class 1A title game at Middle Tennessee's Murphy Center.

Hampton held Middleton to just two points over the final 5:11 to claim its first state championship since 1960. That defensive effort helped overcome a 41-35 deficit after Middleton's Kievian Allen's free throw.

The loss snaps a 25-game win streak for Middleton (30-2). Hampton finished 29-8.

Mr. Basketball R.J. Robinson finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Teammate Jordan Stewart added 10 points off the bench.

However Cadon Buckles and Hayden Campbell was too much for the Tigers. The two scored 18 apiece. Buckles, a Mr. Basketball finalist, was 7-of-12 from the field and finished as Class 1A state tournament MVP. Campbell was 6-of-13 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.
