Eagleton College and Career Academy promotes Stephen Childs to football coach

Eagleton College and Career Academy named Stephen Childs as football coach on Friday, according to Blount County Schools.

Childs replaces two-time state championship coach Philip Shadowens who left to be an assistant coach at Knoxville Catholic.

Childs has been with Eagleton since 2021 where he has held positions of defensive coordinator and assistant athletic director. It will be the first time for Childs in this position.

Childs' coaching career started in 2013 as an assistant secondary and wide receivers coach at Maryville. He was a special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach at Bearden from 2014-15. He was the special teams' coordinator and co-defensive coordinator for William Blount from 2016-21.

Eagleton opened in August 2021 and has not competed in varsity-level TSSAA sports. It will do so starting in the 2023-24 school year.
