CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Northeast High baseball team hosted West Creek High for an inner-city showdown on Monday, April 3. This was the first game in a two-game series.

The Coyotes were able to move ahead of their competition early in the matchup. West Creek led the entire game and narrowly escaped with a 4-3 win over Northeast High.

West Creek High had their offense working early on in the first inning. The top of their lineup started the inning ith a single, and the next two batters were walked. This loaded the bases for the Coyotes, giving them a chance to open up the game.

Nate Lucas delivered the first blow of the game with an RBI single that allowed Donte Castro to cross the plate. With only one run scoring, the bases were still loaded with zero outs in the first. However, Northeast High went on to pull off one of the rarest plays in all of baseball, the triple play.

After making a play on the ball in centerfield, Tyler Webb threw it into the infield to record two additional outs at second and third base, which allowed the Eagles to escape a bases loaded situation.

Pitching duel

The rest of the game turned out to be a pitching duel. Braden Canaan (West Creek) and Markus Kinch (Northeast) were the starters for this one, and they were in command of their best pitches on the mound.

Canaan came out on top with the win and had the stat line of 5.2 innings pitched, 4 hits allowed, 3 runs, 1 earned run, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.

On the other hand, Kinch went the full distance and gave his team a fighting chance to come back. Kinch finished the game with 7 innings pitched, 7 hits allowed, 4 runs, 3 earned runs allowed, 5 walks and 2 strikeouts.

According to Game Changer, West Creek moved to 6-3 on the season. Meanwhile, Northeast moved to 6-9 on the year. The two sides will collide once again for the second game of their series. Their next game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, with a start time of 4:15 p.m.
