LOOKOUT VALLEY — The red-hot Shelbyville Central Eagles kept up their winning ways as they took two wins in the Lookout Valley Classic on Friday afternoon, beating both White County and Cumberland County.
The two wins landed the Eagles their seventh win in eight games.
Against White County, it was pure domination from pitcher Palmer Edwards, who pitched five shutout innings, striking out eight batters, while giving up just one hit.
Carston Williams worked the final two innings in relief and gave up three hits, while also not allowing a run to score, while giving up three hits.
He also struck out four batters.
At the plate, the Eagles hammered out nine hits, but didn’t push their first run across the plate until the fourth inning when Nick Johnson hit a sac-fly that scored Jaquai Beverly.
But the back-breaker came when the Eagles drove in seven runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Johnson’s two RBI triple.
Mason Shavers also drove in two runs on a RBI double in the inning as well.
Shavers had an excellent night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Johnson went 1-for-2 with three RBIs to his credit.

Shelbyville 14, Cumberland Co. 11
The Eagles opened their tournament with plenty of offense against Cumberland County, but had to overcome eight errors.
Nevertheless, the Eagles drove in 14 runs on eight hits and took the win over the Jets.
Caleb Molder and Nick Johnson both drove in runs in the first inning on RBI singles.
After giving one back in the bottom of the inning, Shelbyville went back to work at the dish and Kyler Trice knocked in a pair on a two RBI single and Nick Hopper hammered a double to right, scoring Trice.
Both teams plated nine runs in the fifth inning, but the earlier work done by the Eagles was plenty enough to hang on for the win.
Hopper, along with Caden Thomas, doubled in the win.
On the mound, Wilson pitched three strong innings and struck out three while giving up one unearned run.
The Eagles opened a two-game series on Monday night against Warren County, with Game 2 scheduled at Warren County on Tuesday.
