FAYETTEVILLE — The Marshall County Tigerettes fell behind early and never could recover in a district matchup on Monday night at Lincoln County.
The Lady Falcons plated five runs in the first inning and never let off the throttle in a 14-4 win over the Tigerettes.
Lincoln County stretched its lead to 12-0 by the end of the third inning before Marshall County got on the board in the top of the fourth.
That’s when leadoff hitter Mallory Woodward crushed a solo homer to center field to put the Tigerettes on the board.
Haylee Hobby and Kaniyah Taylor followed with back-to-back walks to put two runners on before Brittany Lynch laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third.
Kinley Wiser attempted to lay down another bunt in the next at-bat, but the Lincoln County defense was able to get the force out at home on the play.
The Tigerettes were still in business with two runners in scoring position, even with two outs.
A walk by Brookelyn Nunely then loaded the bases for Brynlee Walls, who singled to left, scoring a pair of runs for the Tigerettes.
Having answered with three in the top of the fourth, Nunley posted a scoreless fourth frame from the pitcher’s circle and Marshall County was further able to cut into the Lincoln County lead in the top of the fifth.
Reese Lentz led off with a single and Woodward continued her hot night at the plate with a double to center field, pushing Lentz to third.
Two batters later, Taylor slugged an infield single and scored Woodward.
But Lincoln County slammed the door shut on the would-be comeback by scoring two more in the bottom of the fifth to reach the 10-run rule limit.
Walls drove in two runs on a 1-for-2 night, while Woodward was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double.
