CORNERSVILLE — Strong pitching and timely hitting saw Cornersville edge out a 3-2 Game 1 and blow out Fayetteville 8-0 in the nightcap on Monday night.
The Lady ‘Dawgs got a little bit of everything in the two-game sweep.
In Game 1, it was a two-run, walk-off double off the bat of Alicia Polk that landed the Lady ‘Dawgs the 3-2 win.
Cornersville grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third inning on a one-out RBI single by Jayli Childress, who scored Carmen Ward.
That lead eventually disappeared as Fayetteville drove in a single run in the top of the fourth and fifth inning.
Trailing 2-1 and down to their final three outs, Ward led off the Cornersville’ fifth with a single to center field and Anna Wood followed her on base and reached via Lady Tiger error.
Childress then ground into a fielder’s choice and pushed both runners into scoring position, bringing Polk to the plate.
With runners on second and third, Polk mashed a line drive double to center field, scoring both to give the Lady Dogs the 3-2 win.
Polk was the hero in the win, going 1-for-3 with her two RBI double.
Childress also went 2-for-3 with an RBI as well.
Ward got the start in the pitcher’s circle and pitched well against Fayetteville.
She gave up just two runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits, while striking out eight.

GAME 2
Cornersville 8, Fayetteville 0
While Game 1 was a thriller against Fayetteville, Game 2 was a lop-sided affair in favor of the Lady ‘Dawgs, who crushed Fayetteville, 8-0.
Childress got the start from the pitcher’s circle in Game 2 and gave up just one hit—a third inning double— and other than that, Fayetteville didn’t manage much at all in the way of offense.
Cornersville, on the other hand, brought out the bats early in the game and led off the first inning with back-to-back doubles from Anna Wood and Childress.
Childress scored Wood on her double, and then later scored on a Kate Lemon two RBI single.
Molly Wells then doubled, scoring Lemon for the 4-0 Lady ‘Dawg lead after the first.
Cornersville added a fifth run in the third inning, but pulled away with a three-run fourth inning when Childress hit a sac-fly, scoring Zoe Blackwell.
Alica Polk scored on a bases-loaded walk and then Wood stole home for the final run.
Lem on went 2-for-2 with two RBIs to her credit, while Childress was 1-for-2 with two RBIs as well.
