Watertown wraps up D6-2A slate by downing Cannon Co.

WOODBURY – Watertown’s Lady Tigers needed only six innings to hang an 18-5 loss on District 6-2A rival Cannon County Wednesday, May 3.

With the victory, Watertown improved to 15-7-1 and a perfect 6-0 in district play.

Clean-up hitter Jaina Drennon went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs; Rachel Cromer had a pair of doubles and three RBI while Katie Brindley ripped two doubles and a single to drive in two. Callie Buhler and Alyssa Wood each had two RBI and scored two runs.

Ninth grader Avery Taylor earned the pitching decision. She did not allow an earned run, struck out five, scattered four hits and walked three.

Coach Sarah Gentry’s top-seeded squad will be back in action Monday, April 8 as they play host to No. 4 seeded Smith County in the opening round of the district tournament. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.

Monday’s first game finds No. 2 Westmoreland playing No. 3 Cannon County at 5 p.m.

Donelson Christian 16, Friendship Christian 6
LEBANON – Donelson Christian exploded for 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning on the way to a 16-6 victory over Friendship Christian School Wednesday in the Division II-A Middle Region tournament.

With the loss, the Lady Commanders (23-7) fell into a “loser-out” game Thursday at home against Davidson Academy. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

FCS managed just four hits off DCA starter Bailey Shepard who struck out 12 and issued a pair of walks.

In an attempt to thwart the 10-run rule, Friendship scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth with the big blow being a three-run home run off the bat of junior Bell Nokes.

District 9-4A at Green Hill
N. MT. JULIET – No. 5 seeded-Lebanon takes on No. 4 Cookeville Thursday in a 5 p.m. “loser-out” game Thursday at Green Hill High. Thursday’s loser is eliminated while the winner moves on to double-elimination play on Monday.
