Carter County teams clash at EGC, Wilson and Henry take first place

A beautiful day with a light breeze and temperatures in the low 80s provided the atmosphere as Hampton High School’s Golf Team played host to Unaka, Happy Valley, Tri-Cities Christian, and Unicoi on the Elizabethton Golf Course back 9. When everything was settled, Mason Wilson from Unaka High School, who is starting to get some looks from local colleges, claimed first place in the boy’s division with a three over par 39, while Maci Henry from Hampton High School took 1st place in the Girls Division with a 45.
Among other scores of interest, Hampton’s Ezra Tolley shot a 43, while Jackson Smith and Korbyn Woodby shot a 51 and a 54, Guage Swafford finished the day with a 57. On the girl’s side for the Bulldogs, besides Henry, Gracie Jenkins hit a 56. For the Rangers, Gavin Shoun shot a 54, sophomore Jackson Hayes a 57, and Sam Lewis finished the day with a 63. For the Lady Rangers, Alexa Henshaw led the way with a 52, followed by Emma Taylor with 55, Laikyn Stevens with 57, Molly Buckles with 58 and Amariana Hunter with a 63.
Happy Valley had three players participate; the lone boy Colton Pemberton shot a 54, while on the girl’s side, Cayden Anderson shot a respectable 50 and Grace Hollifield shot a 56. Team scores saw Tri-Cities Christian take first place on the day with a 190, Hampton finished second with a 205, Unicoi finished with a 209 and the Rangers ended the day with a 213. For the ladies, Unicoi took first with a 99 followed by Hampton with a 101, Happy Valley and Tri-Cities Christian both had a 106 and Unaka finished with a 107.
Bulldogs Coach Justin Lyons said after the match, “Loved seeing the kids come out today and enjoying the sport. They work hard and we can see that in the scores each week”.
