The Clay County Lady Bulldogs defeated the Monterey Lady Wildcats Tuesday night 3-1 in District 7A volleyball action.

Monterey came out on top with a 25-18 win in the first set before Clay County answered to win the next three, 25-22, 25-11 and 25-13. to win 3-1.

“I think coming back and winning three straight matches is a good confidence boost after feeling like we didn’t play up to our standards last week,” said Clay County head coach James Chambers.

Clay County took advantage of big leads in the last three sets. Clay held leads of  8, 14 and 12 in each set.

“Serving it in-bounds is big,” said Chambers. “We have to make sure that we serve to get the ball in, and not necessarily drive it so hard to get a point on the serve. Also, try focusing on getting better passes and more hits on the net.”

Both teams will stay in District 7A on Thursday as Clay County hosts the York Dragonettes at 5 p.m. while Monterey travels to Jackson County.
