The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs 4-0 on the road Tuesday for their seventh win of the season.
The Lady Hornets scored two goals in each half and recorded their third shutout of the season to pick up a decisive victory for the day.
Huntland head soccer coach Amanda Tipps said her team got off to a rough start with a sloppy first half, but the second half was much better for her players.
“I think after the emotional game we had last night, we just came out a little flat,” she said, referring to a victory over Cascade Monday.
Tipps added that the sizable lead allowed her team the chance to sub in a majority of the roster and get plenty of players experience.
Hazel Reed got the Lady Hornets on the board about seven minutes into the game as she scored off an assist from Piper Cox to break the early tie.
Reed scored again to double Huntland’s lead with about eight minutes to go in the first half as Raegan Johnson provided the assist this time. Reed has five goals so far this season for the Lady Hornets.
They led 2-0 at halftime.
The Lady Hornets added to the lead again about four minutes into the second half as Bristol Moon received a cross from Reed with a header and redirected the ball into the net for her second goal of the year.
Piper Cox provided the final blow for the Lady Hornets as she scored off an assist from Johnson with about 24 minutes remaining to make it a 4-0 game. It was the sixth goal of the season for Cox.
Huntland goalkeeper Molly Tipps and her defense didn’t allow any goals the rest of the way to secure the victory by four.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 7-3 on the season.
They will next play Thursday at home against Community High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
