615 Preps Week 7 Area Rankings: Davidson Academy, FRA set for massive DII-AA meeting

Massive matchups reshaped things in this week’s area small class rankings and a huge Division II-AA matchup in Week 7 could do the same for the medium class rankings looking ahead.

The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top five large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area following last week’s action.

Large Class teams include 6A and Division II-AAA. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, and each grouping has roughly 30 teams in it.

Large Class

1. Brentwood (6-0, last week’s ranking: 1): Baylor Hayes was as efficient as he could be going 11-of-13 passing for 122 yards and three touchdowns as the Bruins shut out Overton 38-0. Up next: at Franklin (0-6)

2. Oakland (5-1, last week’s ranking: 2): Daune Morris carried Oakland to a 35-0 win over Rockvale rushing for 183 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. Ashton Jones added 106 more yards and another touchdown on the ground. Up next: Thursday at Siegel (4-2)

3. Lipscomb Academy (2-3, last week’s ranking: 3): The Mustangs had Week 6 off. Up next: vs. Christian Brothers (Mo.)

4. Mt. Juliet (6-0, last week’s ranking: No. 4): Tyler Travers had no issues against Wilson Central’s defense going 16-of-20 passing for 261 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Golden Bears to the 47-23 win. Up next: at Antioch (3-3)

5. Clarksville (6-0, last week’s ranking: Not ranked): The Wildcats’ had no issues getting past Dickson County 38-10 thanks to 150 rushing yards and four touchdowns from James Dalrymple. Up next: vs. Northwest (0-6)

Dropped out: Ensworth (5th last week). Who just missed out: Ravenwood (5-1), Riverdale (4-2)

Medium Class

1. Pearl-Cohn (6-0, last week’s ranking: 1): Keshawn Tarleton threw for three touchdowns and Javion Kinnard added three more touchdowns on the ground to lead the Firebirds to a 55-0 win over Station Camp and their second shutout in a row. Up next: vs. Whites Creek (2-3)

2. FRA (6-0, last week’s ranking: 2): Logan Kinnard connected with Bobby Council six times for 167 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers offense exploded in the second half en route to a 42-21 win over East Nashville. Ty Clark III added three more touchdowns and 145 yards on the ground. Up next: vs. Davidson Academy (6-0)

3. CPA (5-1, last week’s ranking: 3): Braden Streeter and Crews Law connected for a pair of touchdown passes in the Lions’ 41-14 win over Goodpasture. Streeter was 21-of-25 for 195 yards on the night. Up next: at Webb-Bell Buckle (0-5)

4. Centennial (6-0, last week’s ranking: 4): Tied at 14 with under a minute remaining, Elisha Nieves connected with Ethan Cleary and Kani Johnson on a pair of long receptions to set up Wells Stanley for the game-winning field goal in the closing seconds. Up next: vs. Glencliff (2-4)

5. Davidson Academy (6-0, last week’s ranking: 5): Caden Stroud ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns as Knox Roberts added two passing touchdowns to lead the Bears past Pope Prep 36-15. Up next: at FRA (6-0)

Dropped out: None. Who just missed out: Macon County (5-1), Nolensville (5-1)

Small Class

1. East Nashville (5-1, last week’s ranking: 1): The Eagles led early on but gave up 28 straight points in their loss to FRA. Martez Lamb was a standout for East on the night completing 14 of his 21 passes for 311 yards and a touchdown. Up next: at Smyrna (2-4)

2. MTCS (6-0, last week’s ranking: 4): The Cougars came on top in a defensive battle beating Friendship Christian 16-14. Brooks Jones was the star of the night recording 23 tackles and recovered a fumble in the end zone. Up next: At South Pittsburg (6-0)

3. Smith County (5-1, last week’s ranking: 5): Following a scoreless first half, Riley Martin threw a pair of second-half touchdowns including one to Key Harris with 1:36 remaining to lead the Owls past East Robertson 14-7. Up next: vs. Upperman (6-0)

4. Friendship Christian (5-0, last week’s ranking: 2): The Commanders controlled the clock for most of the night behind Tyson Wolcott’s 153 rushing yards but turnovers at inopportune times doomed them against MTCS. Up next: at Providence Christian (3-3)

5. East Robertson (5-0, last week’s ranking: 3): Smith County’s defense caused issues for the Indians all night. Cade Brooks’ 12-yard run in the fourth quarter was the lone touchdown they could muster. Up next: at Westmoreland (3-3)

Dropped out: None. Who just missed out:  DCA (4-2)
