After two weeks of losses, North Side checked into the win column after a win over Jackson Central-Merry, 42-0.
The Indians (3-4) jumped on the Cougars (1-5) with 14 points each in of the first two quarters and scored at least one touchdown in each of all three phases of the game.
Special teams also helped lead to an offensive touchdown with a blocked punt to give the Indians a short field to work with.
“It’s important to get a win tonight because we’ve been a loser the past two weeks,” said Indians head coach Woodrow Lowe Jr. “But on the other hand, we expect to win, so we expected this. So we’re glad to get this win. We’re also glad to get our first shutout of this season.”
With JCM’s homecoming game being this one, there was a lot of outside noise that Lowe admitted his team struggled with at times leading up to the game throughout the week.
“We’ve just got to learn to stay focused and stay on the task at hand,” Lowe said. “It’s still about execution, so we can’t do things to beat ourselves against a team in our region we would’ve struggled tonight if we had played the way we played tonight.”
JCM will host region rival Huntingdon next week, while North Side will prepare for Jackson version of the Civil War against South Side at South Side.
TCA 42, Harding Aca. 0
The Lions (4-2, 2-0) were able to put the struggling team away easily.
TCA scored 35 points in the first half, meaning the clock ran without stopping in the second half, allowing TCA and its fans to get on the road quicker after the game.
Bolivar 24, South Side 21
The Hawks (2-5) came up short in the non-region game.
Chuck Stokes had a big night, carrying the ball 17 times for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Rakarious Lacy had a touchdown on 11 carries for 66 yards.
Bolivar outgained South Side 198-15 in passing yards.
Northpoint Christian 21, USJ 10
The Bruins (4-3, 1-1 Division II-AA West) took their first loss in region play in the road trip.
USJ pulled within a score early in the fourth quarter when Corben Howard connected with Alex Wallace for a score with about 10 minutes remaining in the game. But that was as close as they would come as Northpoint scored another touchdown to make it a two-possession game.
