McGavock has hired Bryson Randolph as its new boys basketball coach, Metro Nashville Public Schools announced in a release.

He replaces Paul Childress, who resigned after working as the coach since 2013.

Randolph was recently an assistant coach at Rockvale and Oakland. He also has worked in private training with All Around Game and was an operations intern with University of Tennessee's women's basketball while a UT student.

“It’s an honor for me to be named the head varsity coach of McGavock High School. I’m not only grateful for the opportunity, but excited to get started with the team this upcoming season,” Randolph said. “I look forward to meeting the players and playing a primary role in their athletic and academic success. From the very beginning we will instill and continue to enhance the program’s winning culture.”

McGavock went 5-17 last season and finished on an 11-game losing streak.

Childress' run included leading the Raiders to a district title and 22-7 record in 2020 before the TSSAA postseason was shut down amid the COVID-19 pandemic. That had been the school's best season in years.

McGavock has qualified for two state tournaments in its history, making the field in 1972 and winning the Class AAA state title in 1976.
