Memphis area high school football rankings headline by No. 1 vs. No. 2 quarterfinal game

The quarterfinals for the TSSAA football playoffs kick off this week. And though some Memphis-area teams were eliminated from the postseason, there are still a few area teams left. Of those, two of the top-five teams meet this week for a rematch.

Here's the top 10 Memphis area football teams entering the quarterfinals.

1. Germantown (12-0): The Red Devils remain undefeated after beating Bartlett at home last week. They host their quarterfinals matchup this week in the TSSAA football playoffs. Last week’s ranking: No. 1. This week: vs. Houston

2. Houston (10-2): Chandler Day’s career night in Houston’s win over Collierville helped the Mustangs advance to the quarterfinals. Last week’s ranking: No. 4. This week: at Germantown.  

3. Southwind (12-0): Kelvin Perkins and the Southwind offense grabbed its 12th straight win, defeating Beech in the TSSAA football playoffs on Friday night. Last week’s ranking: No. 3. This week: at Henry County.  

4. Memphis University School (9-2): MUS’s season ended last Friday night with a heartbreaking 31-28 loss to Knoxville Catholic. Brady Hughes threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. Last week’s ranking: No. 2. This week: Season is over. 

5. Covington (10-2): Jaheim Smith rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers’ 38-6 win over Ripley. Last week’s ranking: No. 5. This week: at Dyersburg.  

6. Lausanne (9-2): The Lynx season ended to Davidson Academy 36-35 on Friday night in the Division II-AA quarterfinals. Last week’s ranking: No. 8. This week: Season is over. 

7. Bartlett (8-4): The Panthers lost to Germantown 35-16 on the road and their season ended in the second round of the 6A TSSAA football playoffs. Last week’s ranking: No. 6. This week: Season is over. 

8. Collierville (8-4): Emmanuel Palmer scored the lone touchdown for the Dragons in their 40-7 loss to Houston in the second round of the TSSAA football playoffs. Last week’s ranking: No. 8. This week: Season is over. 

9. FACS (9-3): The Crusaders’ dream season ended in the Division II-A quarterfinals in a 56-28 loss to Middle Tennessee Christian. Last week’s ranking: No. 9. This week: Season is over. 

10. Northpoint (8-4): The Trojans lost to undefeated Boyd-Buchanan 28-3 in the Division II-AA quarterfinals on Friday. Last week’s ranking: No. 10. This week: Season is over.
