The Huntland High School Hornets beat the Culleoka Warriors 66-51 at Cornersville Wednesday in the consolation finals for the Cornersville Thanksgiving Classic.
The Hornets held a small edge at halftime and fully pulled away in the final two quarters with the victory placing them in fifth place overall for the bracket.
The Hornets led by as many as seven points in the opening period, but the Warriors were able to tie the score at 14-14 by the end of the quarter. Lashawn Kimmons scored eight of Huntland’s 14 points in the first quarter.
The lead changed hands a few times in the second quarter before the Hornets scored the last eight points of the period to give themselves a slight halftime advantage.
They led 30-26 at the end of the first half.
The Warriors began the second half with a 15-4 run to put the Hornets behind by seven points, but the Hornets answered back by scoring the next 15 points to close out the period.
Huntland led 49-41 going into the fourth quarter.
The Hornets followed up with a 13-2 run to start of the fourth quarter as their lead peaked at 19 points before settling at 15 by the end of the contest.
Kimmons and Kannon Lafevers led the Hornets with 14 points each for the game, followed by Caydon Bradford with 12 points and Trace Kilpatrick with eight.
Landon Farmer scored five points, Demetri Reed and Grant Jernigan scored four points each, Chandler Banks scored three and Ellis Stewart scored two.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 3-3 on the season.
They will next play Monday at home against Culleoka High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
