The Huntland High School Hornets beat the Culleoka Warriors 85-62 on the road Monday for their fourth win of the season.
The Hornets held a sizable lead for most of the day and fully pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure a blowout victory to start the week.
The Hornets opened the contest with a 9-2 run to establish early control of the scoreboard and expanded their lead to double digits before the opening period ended.
They led 23-13 after one quarter.
The Warriors cut the lead down to five points multiple times during the second quarter, but the Hornets were able to remain in front through the end of the half.
A layup by Lashawn Kimmons at the buzzer gave the Hornets a 43-34 advantage going into the halftime break.
The Hornets added a few more points onto their lead in the third quarter with another buzzer-beating layup by Kimmons making it a 62-48 lead going into the final period.
The Hornets ended the game on a 20-5 run to end any chance of a comeback from Culleoka as the final deficit settled at 23 points.
Trace Kilpatrick led the Hornets with 24 points for the game, followed by Kannon Lafevers with 15 points and Kimmons and Caydon Bradford with 14 points each. Kilpatrick hit four 3-pointers in the contest.
Ellis Stewart scored six points, Demetri Reed and Grant Jernigan scored five points each, and Jarren Kinslow scored two points.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 4-5 on the season.
They will next play Friday at home against Madison County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
