Basketball hoop

Fayetteville boys’ basketball was seesawed with a high and low last week. The high was a 63-52 win at home over the Forrest Rockets. The low was getting doubled up on the road by the Cascade Champions. Tuesday night was the home game against Forrest. The Tigers started out slow scoring just six points in the first quarter. They eventually woke up and tied the game at 23 at halftime. A big part of Fayetteville’s success in the second quarter was the making of four three-pointers. Both Latral Brown and Teondre Love each made two. City took over the second half and never let up. They outscored the Rockets 19-11 in the third quarter to lead by eight entering the fourth. A 21-point final quarter for Fayetteville sealed the deal for a plus-11 win margin. The Tigers were led by Love’s 18 points. Samuel Willoughby added to it with 16 points, 10 in the fourth quarter. Brown also had double digits with 12 points. Friday came and it was time for a road trip to Cascade. To say it was an off night for City puts it mildly. Fayetteville was down 37-16 at halftime. Cascade already had more points than the Tigers would score the entire game. Both teams scored 13 each in the third quarter. The Champions put the finishing touches on their performance, winning 68-34. Willoughby led City with 16 points. Next was Kentius Henderson with nine. The game’s top performer was Cascade’s Isaac McElroy. He totaled 30 points, 22 coming in the first half. The Tigers are now 3-2 to begin this week. They hit the road twice to face two tough tasks. Tuesday night features Giles County. Friday brings on Columbia Academy
