Tellico Plains hit 34 field goals on Jan. 2 — 13 of those three-pointers — to turn a first quarter deficit into an 87-42 win over Copper Basin (1-8).
The Bears were led in scoring by 33 points from sophomore Rylan Woods and 15 points from senior Burgess Tate.
Freshman Trevor Kibler added 10 points in the rout. The Bears were held to three field goals in the first quarter before knocking down 14 in the second quarter for 35 points.
Copper Basin’s 15 points in the first quarter had the Cougars out in front before the Bears’ defense held them to nine points in each remaining quarter.
Woods hit four three-pointers and nine field goals in the second quarter. The Bears (10-5) have won three in a row and four of their last five before returning to District 3-2A play on Jan. 5.
