The Trousdale County High School girls basketball team started slow and could never get going offensively in Wednesday evening’s 46-26 loss to visiting Red Boiling Springs.

It was the first game for the Lady Jackets in 12 days due to last week’s games being cancelled due to winter weather.

It was the third game this season between the two teams. The Lady Jackets suffered a 50-34 loss when the two teams played in Red Boiling Springs on Dec. 1, but they played in Portland on Dec. 22, with Trousdale County emerging with a 52-45 victory in the two teams’ finale in the Portland Christmas Tournament.

In the rubber match, Trousdale County managed just three points in the first quarter, with Emma Grace Holder’s basket accounting for her squad’s lone field goal.

RBS eighth-grader Zoe McDuffee made a 3-pointer late in the first quarter, and senior teammate Bailey Massengille followed with a buzzer-beating basket to send her squad into the second stanza with a 13-3 lead.

Then, McDuffee made another 3-pointer to open the second-quarter scoring to extend the advantage to 13 points.

Lady Jacket sophomore Cadyen Ray made four free throws in the second period to help trim the lead to nine points (19-10) at halftime.

However, Lady Bulldog junior guard Chloe Powell scored nine points in the third quarter as RBS extended the margin out to 16 points (35-19) entering the final period.

Holder led TCHS — which had just eight players in uniform — offensively with nine points, followed by Ray (6 points), Janae Aponte (4), Presley Clark (2), Emma Elmore (2), Braylee Potts (2) and Jazmyn Dunn (1).

Elmore was back in action for the first time since suffering a broken collarbone earlier this season.

The Lady Jackets had just seven made field goals.

Powell scored a game-high 19 points.

RBS connected on 15 of 26 free-throw attempts.

TCHS fell to 9-10 with the setback.

The Lady Jackets play at Jackson County on Monday before returning home to host Smith County on Thursday and White House Heritage on Friday.
