Tullahoma High School girls’ basketball team played Central Magnet for the District 8 AAA championship Monday and came away with the 54-41 victory.
The Wildcats brought home individual hardware, Lily Melton, McLayne Bobo and Aubrey North were elected to the District all season team. Nyjah Gibbs and Melton were selected to the All-tournament team. Bobo was voted as the Tournament MVP. Head coach Chad Hibdon was the coach of the year for District 8 AAA.
Tullahoma hosts Upperman tonight for their Regional quarterfinal game at 7:00 p.m.
McLayne Bobo led the Lady ‘Cats in scoring with 18 points. She scored 12 in the first half. Lily Melton scored 15 points. She went 5-of-6 from the foul line.
The only quarter Tullahoma lost was the first, 15-11. Bobo led the team in scoring with 6 points in the first. She hit a shot from beyond the arc, inside the arc and at the foul line. Aubrey North sunk a 3-pointer. Melton hit a field goal for her 2 points in the quarter. Bethany Jackson led Central with 6 points, making two 3-pointers.
The Lady ‘Cats went on a 12-2 run in the last four minutes of the first half to take a 27-23 lead into the break. Bobo scored another 6 points leading the team. She made three shots from the field. Melton scored 5 points. She went 3 of 4 from the strip and made a field goal. Nyjah Gibbs and Emilee Shuran both hit field goals for 2 points. Isabella Lidstrom made a free throw for the other Wildcat point. Reilly McMillian led the Lady Tigers with 4 points. Making two shots from the floor.
The defense was up in the third quarter, both teams being held to single digits. Melton led Tullahoma with 4 points in the quarter. She made two shots from inside the arc. Bobo and Gibbs both added 2 points. Addison Melton led Central with 5 of the team’s 7 points.
The Lady Wildcats scored the most points in a quarter in the fourth with 19 points. Lidstrom led the team with 7 points. She knocked down a shot from long range and made two from inside the arc. Melton and Bobo scored 4 points each. Bobo went 4-of-6 from the line. Melton made a field goal and two free throws. Gibbs and Faith Vincent scored 2 points. Vincent knocked down two free throws late and Gibbs made a shot from the field.
Tullahoma made 19 shots with just three coming from beyond the arc. They went 13-of-20 from the free throw line. Central Magnet made 16 field goals, five came from long range. They went just 4-of-6 from the stripe.
Wildcats finish third
Tullahoma High School boys’ basketball team was in Marshall County Tuesday for the third place game against the Tigers. The ‘Cats came away with the nail-biting 69-68 win.
The Wildcats go to Livingston Academy tomorrow night for their Regional quarterfinal game, tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
Keegan Taylor hit the game-winning free throw with three seconds left on the clock. Austin Tinnon led the team in scoring with 24 points. He scored 10 in the third quarter. Xavier Farrell scored 13 points and DeAndre Jenkins scored 10.
The Wildcats’ offense got off to a slow start only scoring 3 points in the first three minutes of game time. Jenkins led the team in scoring in the first quarter with 6 points on three made field goals. Farrell scored 3 by converting an and-one. Khani Johnson and Taylor both scored 2 points. Jayden Thompson scored 1 point from the foul line. Marshall County was led by Jamahl Gentry with 7 points in the quarter. The Tigers led 18-14 after the first quarter.
The second quarter went back and forth, but the Tigers won the period 15-14. Tinnon led Tullahoma with 8 points in the quarter on four made baskets. Farrell added 4 points on two more made shots. Thompson scored the other 2 points in the paint. Jabrae Howard and KeMarion Allen led Marshall County with 5 points each in the second. Tullahoma trailed 33-28 at halftime.
The Wildcats came out of the locker room on fire, scoring 24 points in the quarter. They opened the period on an 8-2 run, taking a 36-35 lead with 4:45 left in the quarter. Tinnon again led the way with 10 points in the quarter. He made five shots, including three of the first four makes for Tullahoma. Jaiden Sanchez scored 4 points on two made field goals. Taylor and Farrell both scored 3 points, making shots from beyond the arc. Jenkins and Thompson scored 2 points from the field. Howard led the Tigers with 5 of the team’s 10 points in the third. The ‘Cats led 52-43 going into the fourth.
Marshall County fought back in the fourth, having their best offensive quarter with 25 points in the fourth. They tied the game at 68 with 6.5 seconds left after knocking down two free throws. Taylor was fouled after the game was tied and he made his second free throw to take the 69-68 lead with three seconds left. The Tigers missed a heave at the buzzer. Tinnon led Tullahoma in scoring with 6 points in the quarter. Johnson and Farrell scored 3 points. They both made a shot from the field and foul line. Jenkins and Sanchez scored 2 points from the field. Gentry led Marshall County with 10 points.
Tullahoma made 31 field goals, just two from beyond the arc. They went 5 of 18 from the stripe. Marshall County made 21 shots, eight form long range. They went 18-of-28 from the free throw line.
