MORRISTOWN — Jalen McCullough and Bricyn Gudger got the Trojans off to a fast start, and they never looked back after leading 24-13 in the first quarter.
They finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively, and Bereket Evans buried three 3-pointers for his 15.
Zayden Hayes led the Indians with 17 points. Cam Hayworth netted 16, Jeremiah Jones had 10 and Charlie McHugh eight. Hayes, Hayworth and McHugh combined to make seven 3-pointers.
Morristown East 75, West Ridge 57
MORRISTOWN — Kyle Cloninger dropped 21 points with three 3-pointers to pace the Hurricanes, who led 40-29 at the half but had a 67-40 lead in the third quarter.
Brice Epps had 11 points, and Cory Carpenter and Keegan Mink each had 10.
Avery Horne made a trio of 3s in the first quarter en route to his 18-point night for West Ridge. Eli Bright added 10 points.
Jefferson County 61, Daniel Boone 47
GRAY — Jefferson County’s second victory of the calendar year couldn’t have come at a better time, at least for the Patriots.
The Patriots stunned District 1-4A boys basketball champion Daniel Boone in Saturday’s Region 1-4A quarterfinal round, winning 61-47 at Bobby Snyder Gymnasium.
The Trailblazers went on a 14-0 run, but Jefferson County responded with nine straight points of its own to build a 52-39 lead with under three minutes left.
Kip Parker led the Patriots with 20 points. Brody Carr added 14, and Shawn Jackson 10.
Clay Rowland (13), Tim McGonigle (12) and Brayden Blankenship all hit double figures for Boone. McGonigle, Blankenship and Garrison Jones (8) all hit from deep twice.
Sevier County 50, Science Hill 40
JOHNSON CITY — Smoky Bears junior Reed Ownby was the only player to score in double figures, finishing with 18 points in the Region 1-4A quarterfinal win.
The Hilltoppers (20-12) trailed just 29-22 at the half but couldn’t take advantage of Sevier County’s dry spell in the third quarter, managing just three field goals.
Jabriel Fain had nine points, and Brady Lawson Ty Young had eight apiece for Science Hill.
Bryson Headrick scored all nine of his points in the first half for Sevier County (20-11).
David Crockett 80, Cherokee 64
JONESBOROUGH — Four players hit double figures for the Pioneers, who led just 37-35 at the half before taking a 60-49 lead to the fourth quarter.
Reagan Cash led the way with 18 points. Colin Beason drained three 3-pointers to finish with 13 points. Brody McGuire, who matched Cash with six field goals, and Stephen Hensley both ended with 10 points, and Drake Shingledecker added nine.
Colten McLain had a game-high 25 points for the Chiefs, making nine field goals while matching Bryson Markham with two 3s. Markham (13) and Landon Jeffers (12) both hit double figures.
University High 81, Washburn 32
JOHNSON CITY — Four players scored in double figures, and 10 overall as the Junior Buccaneers cruised into the region semifinals.
Peter Boynewicz led the way with 15 points. Andrew Cole buried two 3-pointers to match A.J. Murphy with 12 points. Jordan Carter hit from deep three times to finish with 11, and Brady Weems had eight points.
Billy Wolfenbarger had 11 points to lead the Pirates.
Unicoi County 64, Claiborne 50
NEW TAZEWELL — Jackson Simmons carried the Blue Devils once again, dropping 28 points on the road to keep Unicoi County alive. He and Garrett Sellars helped the Devils turn their 28-20 halftime lead into a 44-30 advantage before the fourth quarter.
Simmons hit 11 field goals in the game, twice from deep. Sellars buried four 3s to end with 17 points.
Ethan Cupp and Evan Thomas led the Bulldogs with 21 and 15 points respectively.
Greeneville 75, Sullivan East 61
GREENEVILLE — Trey Thompson shot 10-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the foul line, hitting five 3-pointers and scoring 32 points to lead the Greene Devils.
Isaac McGill added 11 points, and Zaydyn Anderson 10 with a pair of 3s.
Three players hit double figures for East, with Drake Fisher scoring all 18 of his points in the second half. Tyler Cross added 14 points, and Corbin Laisure 13.
Alcoa 70, Hampton 55
ALCOA — Hampton’s bid for back-to-back state titles ended at the hands of the reigning Class 2A champion Saturday night.
The Tornadoes led only 35-25 at the half but opened a 54-36 lead going to the fourth. Jahvin Carter led Alcoa with 18 points. Jamir Dean added 15, and Moro Ayl had 11.
Hayden Campbell led the Bulldogs with 14 points and three blocked shots. Michael Anspaugh buried three triples and scored 12 points. Geno Carrico (11) and Dylan Trivett (10) both matched Campbell with a team-high five rebounds.
Cloudland 59, Hancock County 48
SNEEDVILLE — Even after not defeating a TSSAA team during the regular season, Cloudland has its second postseason win in as many outings — not to mention its first region tournament win since 2016.
Cooper Smith fired in 28 points to lead the Highlanders, 22 coming in the second half as he made nine field goals with one 3-pointer. Nick Caraway also hit double figures with 19 points, 10 coming at the foul line.
Connor King (11), Chandler Parson (9) and Brady Swinney (9) led Hancock County.
Cosby 75, Unaka 70
COSBY — Peyton Raines shot 9-of-17 and scored 22 points with four rebounds to help the Eagles survive Unaka.
Cruz Coggins and Mack Holt both had 13 points, and Haiden McMahan scored 10.
