Cloudland loses 54-31 to Pickett County in TSSAA State Tournament

MURFREESBORO – Cloudland fell to Pickett County 54-31 in the TSSAA State Tournament on Wednesday night in Murfreesboro.

The Lady Highlanders faced an early deficit, trailing 6-0 in the first quarter before Ryan Turbyfill’s 3-pointer narrowed the gap to three points. Makinna Shell’s steal and subsequent pull-up jumper brought Cloudland within one, trailing 6-5, with 5:25 remaining in the opening quarter. Shell’s jumper at the 4:08 mark gave Cloudland its first lead of the game. However, Pickett County regained the lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 12-9 after a layup and two free throws.

Pickett County expanded their lead with a 13-5 run early in the second quarter, pushing ahead 25-14 by the 3:31 mark. Cloudland struggled, entering halftime down 33-19. The Lady Highlanders managed only four points in the third quarter, all from Shell, trailing 47-23 heading into the final period. Despite efforts to rally, Cloudland could not bridge the gap, ending their season with a 54-31 defeat.

Shell led the Lady Highlanders with 15 points, followed by Turbyfill with 10. Cloudland finishes the season with an impressive 28-2 record.
