NEW TAZEWELL — Cherokee’s baseball team pounded out 22 hits, seven going for extra bases, in Monday’s District 2-3A contest.
The Chiefs collected their first conference win of the year in convincing fashion, 24-1 at Claiborne.
Cole Putnal and Mason Emery both doubled and finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while Parker Travis (double) and Noah Hunter each had two hits. Jake Elliott’s grand slam capped Cherokee’s 10-run third inning. Gavin Housewright, Charles Wagoner and Sawyer Housewright all doubled for the Chiefs.
Starting pitcher Manning Brooks and Wagoner both struck out four batters in the five-inning effort.
Grainger 7, Volunteer 2
CHURCH HILL — C Cameron struck out seven batters and walked three to earn the one-hit win for Grainger. B Christian, who doubled and batted in three runs, and K Lucas had two hits apiece.
Anthony Blasini had the lone hit and an RBI for Volunteer.
John S. Battle 4, Virginia High 0
BRISTOL, Va. — Landon Odum and Noah Sills combined for a complete-game shutout, striking out three batters apiece. Odum pitched three innings to get the win, before Sills went the last four and got the save.
Elijah Childress went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Trojans’ offense.
David Crockett 10, Greeneville 6
JONESBOROUGH — The Pioneers scored five runs to grab the lead in the second inning and never relinquished it. Ayden Mullikin’s RBI single broke a 3-3 tie, and Jake Fox made it 6-3 with his two-run double. Ronnie Hall and Mason Grindstaff provided insurance from there with RBI singles.
Hall, Mullikin, Fox and A.J. Ford all finished with two hits. Connor Hendrix got the start and struck out two over the first three innings, before Mullikin fanned three over the final four frames.
Will Harmon’s two-run homer got Greeneville within 6-5, but the defending state champion Devils couldn’t catch up. Kobe Mundy and Colton Richards both doubled.
Tennessee High 17, Sullivan East 0
BLUFF CITY — Kaleb Feathers struck out five and walked none to collect the one-hit shutout for Tennessee High. Gage Graziano batted in three runs, with Ashton Leonard and Isaac Blevins adding two RBIs apiece.

GRAY — The Lady Trailblazers started their season with a five-inning victory Monday night. Kaylea Osborne got the win in the circle, striking out six batters and allowing only one hit and one walk.
Ava Saul went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored to lead the offense. Anna Richardson went 3-for-3 with an RBI herself, while Kyleigh Bacon and Riley Croley both doubled.
Rye Cove 17, Holston 2
DAMASCUS — Kenzie Hood hit 4-for-5 with two doubles and batted in four runs for the Lady War Eagles. Eden Muncy hit a triple and a double while also striking out seven over four innings of work.
Gracie Turner (2-for-3), Maddy Wood (3-for-5) and Jasmine Stanley (2-for-3) all doubled in the win.
Middlesboro (Ky.) 15, Thomas Walker 3
EWING — Kennedy Yoakum batted in four runs with a triple and a double, Kenna Lawson doubled once and Alexis Middleton homered for the Yellow Jackets.
Kayden Short (triple) and Sophie Lawson both went 2-for-3 for Thomas Walker, with Alexia Adkins hitting a double.
Tennessee High 19, Cherokee 1
ROGERSVILLE — Carly Compton fired a three-inning no-hitter for the Lady Vikings, striking out eight and walking just one while also hitting 2-for-3 with a double.
Madeline Ratliff (2-for-2) clubbed a two-run home run in the win. Addie Wilhoit and Maddisyn Hall both hit 3-for-4 with a double, and Abigail Haga doubled twice. Lily Ware and Macie Strouth each had two hits.
Elizabethton 12, Gate City 1
ELIZABETHTON — Lela Byrd’s two-run homer jumpstarted the Lady Cyclones in the first inning. Mikinna Blackwell and Sadie Williams went yard in the third and fourth innings respectively. Leadoff batter Mollie Johnson hit 3-for-4 to lead the offense.
Byrd also got the win in the circle, striking out seven and allowing one run on one hit with just two walks.
Makayla Bays hit a solo home run for the Lady Blue Devils, who finished with three hits.
