CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Scoring early and often Soddy-Daisy notched its second win of the young season over Cleveland Wednesday evening, at Bill Talley Stadium.
The Trojans (7-1) charged out to a 5-0 edge on their way to a 6-3 victory, stretching their current winning streak to a half dozen.
Both teams will participate in the Joe Adams Memorial-Alzheimer Awareness Classic that begins on Thursday and runs through Saturday.
The Trojans will travel to Athens Thursday to face East Hamilton at 7:30, before heading to Walker Valley Friday at 4, plus Bradley Central at 11:45 Saturday.
Cleveland (4-4) will be at Mike Turner Field (Walker Valley) Thursday to tangle with Lincoln County at 7:30, before hosting Coffee County and East Hamilton back-to-back Saturday, starting at 11:45 a.m.
Soddy-Daisy opened Wednesday's win by scoring a run without benefit of a hit in the initial at bat.
Jake Jackson walked, stole second and third and came home on a Keith Scoggins sac fly.
The Trojans put up a 3-spot in the third frame, once again set up by free passes. With one out, Jackson and Anthony Florio both "walked the line" before Scoggins ripped a triple to the deep right-center field gap.
Scoggins came in to score on a sac fly by Cooper Poe, helping his own cause as he notched the pitching victory with five innings of three-hit work, striking out nine and walking a trio.
Carson Flint tossed a pair of relief innings for the save, notching four Ks, allowing a hit and a pair of walks.
The Trojans tacked on a solo score in the top of the fourth when once again a free pass to Braden Maynor set the stage as he stole second, moved to third on a throwing error on the play and came in when Jackson stroked a single.
The Blue Raiders finally got the goose egg off the bottom of the scoreboard when Cutter Womack stroked a double to lead off the home half of the fourth. He then stole third and came to the plate on a throwing error.
The hosts added another run when Tyler Gardner drew a free pass to open the bottom of the fifth, moved up to third on a single by Cameron Liner and then came home on a wild pitch.
Both teams put up a run in the sixth with Trojan Gabe Welch walking, stealing second and third before scoring on a sac fly by Scoggins, for his fourth RBI of the night.
Cleveland countered when Andrew Wenger worked a base on balls and circled the bases on a two-out double by Caden Tippens for the game's final score.
Soddy was a perfect 14-for-14 on stolen base attempts with Jackson swiping a half dozen.
