CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville High two-way player Aree Collins has been selected as the Clarksville Now Player of the Week for her play last week on the mound and in the batter’s box.

During the week of March 11, the Clarksville High softball team played in a total of five games. In those five games played, the Wildcats won four of their matchups while only losing one.

A big reason Clarksville High was able to go 4-1 in a 5-game stretch is because of Collins and her ability to get on base and drive in base runners. In the first week of the regular season, Collins had a batting average of .429, which included blasting two home runs and driving in 8 RBI’s.

In addition to her offensive impact, Collins was just as lethal on the mound during her one start of the week. When the team played against Sycamore High, the senior two-way player pitched for a complete game while allowing 0 unearned runs, 6 strikeouts and only allowing four hits, according to the Game Changer app.

When asked about Collins, Clarksville High head coach had this to say: “Aree is the ultimate team player… She cares about her team and their wellbeing. She is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win. She plays pitcher and shortstop equally as well. At the plate, she is a threat to hit a home run or lay down a bunt at any given time.”
